Bert and Muriel Hanor Memorial Fund The Heidi Project Contact Us
The Hanor Fund marked its twentieth year with the appointment of three new trustees and a name change.
According to chief trustee Barbara A. Sloan,
“The Bert and Muriel Hanor Memorial Fund was established in 1984 for artists by artists
to commemorate the lives of artists in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Today, this fund is fortunate to have
Jim Few and Kay Floyd as its trustees, and we are especially grateful to the directors
of Chambers Bank for their enthusiastic support of our programs.”
For many years, fund trustees had presented the Hanor Award for artistic achievement in
conjunction with the Annual Membership Show of the Southern Artists Association and the Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs on Whittington Avenue. In 2004, this all-volunteer fund honored the outstanding volunteer for the visual arts in Garland County - not only to recognize the contribution of a particular individual but also to encourage the volunteerism of others in the local arts. Award recipients for 2004-2008 are listed below.
The Fund also manages a second program called The Heidi Project, in memory of local artist and educator
Heidi Means. Sloan adds,
“This project seeks to provide schools and other learning centers in Garland County with much-needed art supplies. The purpose of arts education is to teach people how to become better human beings, and the Hanor Fund wants to do its part to see that no child is left behind. Yet, with today's diminishing tax revenues for art education and those tiny tax breaks for teachers, this is becoming increasingly difficult for educators in the United States.”
